Hair Transplant is a minimally invasive surgery that does not involve much intervention on scalp tissues. This is the reason recovery after the surgery is mostly quick and uneventful. Nevertheless, it is a surgical procedure that does involve some cutting or at least pinching in the scalp, and thus you have to be a little careful to minimize the pain and discomfort.
Not taking proper care of your donor and recipient sites can lead to some serious complications as well. However, by carefully following the simple tips listed below, you can significantly minimize discomfort during hair transplant recovery period. For no pain and no scar hair transplant, contact UAE’s leading hair clinic, Dubai Hair Club.
- Use Cold Compression
Local anesthesia is administered to make hair transplant a virtually painless procedure. But as soon as soon as the effect of anesthesia begins to subside, expect all the pain and discomfort to rush. The instant fix for any such situation is a cold compressor. Press it firmly but gently, or you may end up dislodging the freshly transplanted follicles.
- Take Prescription Medicines
Surgeons prescribe antibiotics as well as painkillers to ensure their patients recover smoothly and painlessly – obviously they care for you. Be proactive and start using your prescriptions immediately after the transplant. Don’t wait for the pain and discomfort symptoms to take medicines.
- Sleep with Head Elevated
This one is very important! Keep your head elevated at an angle of 45 degrees, for the first few days following the surgery, even while sleeping. Place two-three pillows under your neck to achieve desired elevation. This will prevent blood-rush to the scalp, helping minimize post-surgical swelling as well as relieve pain.
- Don’t wash head for 24-36 hours
We know you are a cleanliness freak, but control your freakiness for at least a couple of days. Head washing is strictly prohibited for 24 to 36 hours following a hair transplant surgery. You will be asked to visit the clinic after that and a technical staff at the clinic will wash your head to explain how you have to do the washing at home. Follow the instructions carefully to make sure that the transplanted follicles remain intact.
- No blood thinners for at least two weeks
You surgeon will ask you to discontinue use of any blood thinning medication at least a couple of weeks before hair transplant. The same instruction you need to follow for another 2-3 weeks post-transplant. Blood thinners increase blood flow to the scalp, making you susceptible to post-surgical bleeding and delayed healing. FYI, aspirin and ibuprofen are two most commonly used blood thinners.
Note: Smoking, alcohol consumption and other addictive drugs should also be avoided to ensure a smooth and uneventful, quick recovery.
